A unique marketing program for authors.By Alicia McGowan and Jane Ubell-Meyer Bedside Reading is a remarkable tool for authors and assists authors by building their brand and placing books by the bedsides in luxury hotels and in the media.
In August 2017, Jane Ubell-Meyer created Bedside Reading® with a mission to help expand an author’s fanbase and to promote an author’s book in the media. Her Bedside Reading portfolio includes over 20 hotels like the Waldorf Astoria, Mandarin Oriental, and Fairmont brands among others. Her publishing clients include Penguin Random House, Simon and Schuster, Harper Collins, Hachette, Macmillan, Kensington as well as countless small publishers and indie-authors. Bedside Reading wants to make an author feel loved and special. Jane wants to give them the "Jane Love," as she says. She strives to give authors what they need and she brainstorms new ideas like Instagram giveaways, how to execute an author book signing party, and many other things to think about. Authors and/or publishers will ship their books to the hotels. Once the book is by the bedside in the hotel, the hotel will then post a beautiful photo of the book with the author’s hashtags and tags. Each day we will pick an author in our program and write a blog post about them and their book. We will post on social media posts across all platforms with a link to the post. Bedside Reading is growing day by day and has exciting plans for 2020. Jane is also currently working with partnering hotels to place podcasts featuring authors in the hotel rooms.
