In Anchorage, Alaska, Yup’ik Eskimo chief financial officer and single mother, Esther Fancyboy, walks out of a party and into a blizzard. She is never seen again, leaving behind a seven-year-old son, Evan.
The local cops say she’ll come home when she’s done partying, but family friend Maeve Malloy doesn’t think it’s that simple. She goes looking for Esther just as she’s getting bad news of her own, a career-ending accusation.
When Esther’s body turns up in a snow berm and a witness is shot to death in front of Maeve, she suspects Evan might be in danger. Maeve must race against time to save the boy – along with her career, and maybe her life.
JM Green 5.0 out of 5 stars Life and mystery in Alaska April 7, 2019 This second book in the Maeve Malloy series is as good as the first! It’s down-to-earth, gritty and easy to read. I love the interactions between Maeve and Tom – who wouldn’t love to have someone like Tom have their back? The characters ring true, with all the good, kind, funny and ugly moments that entails. I appreciate the author’s knowledge of the legal process and also her intimate knowledge of Alaska, which plays a huge role in the series. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Cyn 5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating September 14, 2019 Hemlock Needle is a compelling and thought-provoking read! There are important issues at the center of the plot, the characters are wonderfully complex--especially Maeve--and the pacing is terrific. I couldn't put this down. Cannot wait for book three in this series!
